Day 19: Kind words

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Allah is kind and likes kindness in all things” (Bukhari, 6601).

Today I asked the children to write a letter to someone they care about and share their feelings towards them.  Zayd chose his first best friend, James, his buddy from pre-school who moved to California a few years ago.  In a card he made himself, he asked James about his school, his dog, how much homework he gets, and told him how much he missed him.  Then he reminisced about the old days:  "Remember when you broke your arm and I broke mine and everyone called us 'arm buddies'.  And remember when we went to the pumpkin patch ... Good days. Good days."Saanya chose Zy mama, her mammo in London.   She wrote about how much fun she has when she visits him, how he always makes her laugh, and the little things she loves about him -- like how he says 'weird' in that funny way, and how he goes on and on about foods he likes to eat, and of course, his bear hugs.  "The Kit Kats, and Licorice All Sorts and Fizzy Fangs have lasted until now and I think of you in your garden every time I eat them."  And she added, "I'm sharpening my reflexes so next time I'll be able to beat you at slaps!"It doesn't take much.  A few quiet minutes. To say a few kind words.  To someone you care about. That too is a good deed.  Day 19: Deed 19:  Expressing kindness.
