Day 16: Breaking fast, building bridges

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was once asked, "What is religion?" He replied, "It is ones conduct and regard towards other people."

Guest blogger: SaanyaMy family and I attended the Montgomery County Muslim Council and Foundation's Iftar with the County Executive and other representatives.  It was truly inspiring to see our local leaders bonding with our community of Muslims.  We broke fast together, over dates, samosas and stories. County Executive Ike Leggett was there and he declared a special proclamation recognizing Muslims in Montgomery County.  I had met Mr. Leggett a few weeks ago in El Salvador.  He and Mrs. Leggett were so supportive of my card fundraising efforts.  There were other inspiring leaders there too -- like Congresswoman Donna Edwards and Attorney General Doug Gansler. And from the Muslim community, there  was a college student who had biked from Baltimore to San Francisco to raise money for cancer research.  It was an honor to be asked to speak at the event.  As Prophet Muhammad said, religion has to do with how we treat one another.  This evening was a great example of practicing our religion, by sharing our culture, getting to know one another, and treating  each other with respect and hospitality.  Day 16: Deed 16: Breaking fast, and building bridges.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyzFk23letc]
